Write on effect using psd files not working

Hello,

I’m trying to use the write on effect in after effects, using psd files but it doesn’t seem to be working. The method I’m using works fine with AI files but the illustrator I’m using for this whiteboard animation job has sent me psd files.

Method I used: double click on the file to open layers panel, use paint brush tool with RGBA and write on. Create my path. Duplicate layer, delete paint effect on that layer and add a generate write effect, making sure it’s revealing image, small brush spacing and big brush size. Then I copied the path of first layer to brush position of second layer. Then deleted first layer.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Please let me know if you have a solution!!

save the psd file as a jpg or png

But then I probably lose the layers??

you can save each layer sep, how many layers are you talking about?

Quite a lot for each picture.
Also, just saved one picture I got as pdf, as a png, but it has a white background. How do I remove? Tried an online remover but didn’t come out clear.

Just curious - have you ever encountered this issue with psd files??

I now it doesnt work w all file types, do you want to send me one psd drawing and I can try it and let you know?
keep in mind the size needs to be the size of your comp

Thank you so much. Will send you one.

the psd file works fine, you just need to open the comps and then make sure your viewing your layers on transparency mode so you can see it since your drawing is black

Thank you so much for your help! Figured out eventually that the sizing was wrong. She had set up the whole artboard as 1920 by 1080 but had to resize each layer. Changed each layer to 1920 by 1080 and then it worked
