When looking for someone to design a website, should they also be able to develop it?
I reached out to a few website designers, and some of them asked if I only needed design or if I also required development.
Can someone clarify the difference?
Designers create the visual look and developers set it up and code it into a fully functional website. A lot of designers will do basic development as well (they will set up your website and only use a developer if you want something particularly complex etc).
They ask if you need development as well because some clients want just the visual design and have their own developers and some want the full package of design & dev…
So, is it best to look for someone who knows both?
Depends on your budget. You would have to find out about both.
But there are some talented designers who just don’t like developing! So they can produce a stunning design for you that would be amazing if you can find a dev for.
Sometimes might just be worth your while to find someone who can do both. Also someone who is developing will know exactly what design are possible to be done whereas a designer, will not necessarily take that into account to the full extent - and when you get to the developing stage, some of the design may be changed which would be a shame…
It really depends
