Text rotation in illustrator

Hi,

I’m trying to rotate this text to go sideways in illustrator (for the side of a box), but it changes it to this:

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If I’m understanding correctly, There’s a vertical text option by the text tools

Ohhh I understand what you mean
I would just rotate the text but don’t make a text box first
Just select the text tool, select a spot on the artboard and type what you need, then rotate it

Sometimes when I have it in a text box the trick I use is that I select the text with another small non text item-even something off the art board-and then the box turns properly:)

you can use the rotate tool to rotate it and that will rotate the text box

I sometimes just duplicate the layer (move it off the artbpard, just save it in case you need it) and then outline the text and rotate the text box

You can also use the rotate tool, like @adinacahn said
