Pricing- hourly instead of set price

HI,
I generally charge a set price for desiging and developing a website. However, a client now is insisting that they want to pay per hour.
I have 2 questions- Firstly, it’s hard for me to project exactly how many hours the job will take.
In addition, when charging a set price I generally divide the price into 2 or 3 payments - with 1 of those being a deposit before I start working. Is there any way to do that with being paid hourly?
(Can I charge a deposit and say that will go towards the 1st 10 hours of work or s/t like that or is that not done?)

Hourly pricing for a full website is something I wouldn’t want to do :grimacing:

Another pricing method that works successfully in web is pricing weekly or monthly. If doing that, I would consider setting up a subscription cc payment so that you don’t have to wait for it to be paid. Weekly pricing has a similar feel to hourly, but it’s more flexible for you and is more realistic for a larger project.
