what would be the price to charge for designing a label tag (package)?
its a small tag that she would attach to whatever she is selling,
thanks
@adinacahn what would be a reasonable price to design a tag for wigs?
A tag would generally be the logo no? Are you designing the logo?
Otherwise send me an example of a tag and I can try to direct you
Something like this not sure the exact design yet, and a back which will only have a phone number
@adinacahn it will just have her name and tagline
Does it make sense to you to charge it like a business card? or slightly less?
I’m not sure where you are holding prices wise, I would say something along the lines of $55-$180?
I think it depends what role you are playing here.
Sometimes the client comes knowing exactly what they are doing - say they need their full color logo resized to fit a white cardstock tag.
But what I find most often is that they really want the designer to steer the entire tag design process. This can include researching materials (linen, waxpaper, colored rim cardstock) and different imprint processes (raised, embossed, stamped) and then coming up with the graphics to support whatever concept you decided on together.
I recently did a tag for a kids clothing company where they had their logo printed on beige cardstock, but die-cut out a part of the logo. Then they had another piece of colored cardstock behind it, and that colored showed through behind the die cut… This is just an example… so there wasn’t so much graphics work per se but it entailed many hours of concept-izing and research, all of which they should pay for.
Just curious, in that case did you have to recommend a printer which specialised in doing specifically those types of things, or was that the client’s job?
Very often people in the business have friends in the business who have contacts who know somebody etc etc. In my experience, typically they will come with the name of the vendor (or 2) they want to work with, and then I would discuss the printing options with the vendor to make sure the vision is doable before presenting it to the client. If they want you to price check between vendors, the research time gets longer so the price increases.
In general, most printers can do these specialized jobs, the question is the price. Some are cheaper in specific areas, etc. So it’s a matter of matching the right vendor to the job. With time, bs"d you get a sense of who to send where…
That makes sense, thanks!
That tag sounds so cool! How do you do research and inspiration for such kinds of ideas?
I start off with checking what’s in the industry, in this case looking at other clothing brand’s packaging and tags. Pinterest is always a great source of inspo, and lots of times the printer has info on what’s new and trending or cost efficient etc. I actually find talking to the printer helps a lot!
Thanks!
Sure!
