Imagery

Hi everyone! In terms of designing for the “real world”- any good suggestions on getting exactly the right imagery that you need, without having to pay tons of money?

Often the client can provide her own photos, or you can take your own, which is often the best bet for getting just the right ones. You can offer to photoshop them for a separate fee in order to optimize them for the designs. There are many sites, other than Shutterstock, from which you can get stock photos, some of which are very inexpensive.
Getting a subscription will often allow you better rates, check out this site:

Depositphotos.com often runs a sale, 100 images for $100. Their selection isn’t as good as Shutterstock or iStock, but it’s still good.
Unsplash has gorgeous pictures for things like landscape and nature, all free.

I don’t need stock photography often enough to need a subscription like Alyse wrote, but if you do – they’re great.
