Hi! I have a client who asked me to design a flyer for her, however she has a certain layout/design in mind and to put it simply- the design is completely off! Like there’s no focal point or hierarchy etc…I made her some other choices but she’s very insistent on her layout…would appreciate any advice anyone can give on how to deal with this…
uch thats so annoying when clients think that they know better…
There’s nothing really you can do… if you’re not happy with the results, don’t put your name on the flyer.
Just design it how she likes it - customer service is the key to good business
Good Luck!
I was going to say the same as Breindy,
The client is Boss If you’re not proud of the work just don’t put your name on it
Some projects we do just for the pay and some along with the pay we get some enjoyment too!
yea iv tried every trick in the book but sometimes its just impossible:see_no_evil: the best way to avoid this is to pick clients carefully!
Rather than a completely new layout perhaps you can just tweak hers to make it less problematic, maybe she would be more receptive to that. Keeping the basic layout and colors as she wanted but adjusting some sizing, shading, ie minor things so she still feels like it is her “idea” and design but it works a little better.
But in the end, “the client is always right”! Just don’t put it in your portfolio or show it as a sample of your work to other potential clients.
In the Video Editing world we say “Some for the meal ,some for the reel”
If the client is paying you do what she wants, you just dont need to put it on your portfolio
On another note, I like to send a couple sketches, one they are asking for, one with their direction but my changes, and one that I think would work. Sometimes when they see it in front of them, or the people they are asking for opinions from, they change their mind.
