Has anyone built a site with discourse or any other forum software? I would appreciate more information.
Thanks.
Yes, I used BB Press. And upgrade from this (if you’re looking for something more current) would be Forym. These are all WordPress options.
Some themes may include a forum plugin so you may want to look out for that if you haven’t yet purchased a theme.
Thank you @zippy , JDF is very much what I am looking for, though, The setup seems daunting, since it requires its own hosting, to on a shared platform. Do you have any simpler Wordpress only solutions that are still reliable, intuitive and can perform at a good speed?
yes it does require self hosting, I use Digital ocean. I’ll ask my developer what other non self hosting forum software he recommends
Design alive used BB press on the previous version of the jewishdesignforum and i found it hard to use but it could be i never explored it enough or that current versions are more updated
My web developer provided this info which i hope is useful.

These are some hosted forums where you can create an account and a forum. Some are based in well-known scripts like SMF or phpBB.

The main problem with these kind of sites is the restrictions and the performance. Some are free and other ask for a monthly fee to get more features.
Thank you. I wonder if BB press would be relevant. Alternatively, these are nice options. Though I would like to integrate them with a Wordpress website. I would need to check if I can accomplish what my client needs without integrating the forum into the website.
