Backing up site before making changes

I understand it is important to backup a site before making major changes. What is the best way to do this? I am working on a subdomain using siteground hosting company.

So why not create a manual backup in siteground?

does that back up sub domains as well?

The automatic backups do, and for a manual backup you can select whatever you want.
