I am trying to figure out the pricing per page idea for an album.
If I charge per page, but only have one image per page, then the job will be easier, but will be more pages, and the final price will be more.
If I do a collage, the job will be much more challenging, yet there will be less pages, and the final price will be less.
Can someone explain how this makes sense??
Thanks!!!
you’re right it doesn’t make sense. i guess then you could either:
- give per page prices for a simple layout vs complex layouts
- give an overall album price and then use your discretion of full page vs collages
- give a price per photo then if they say they want to include 500 photos it’ll cost more then only 200 photos… and the more photos the more work…
and you can also give a limit that they can have max. no. of photos or pages… or charge extra if they go over a certain standard no. of pages. also you can explain the less is more concept that if they want photos to look clear, they’ll need less per page (i davka go for more on a page that are smaller for my family albums but that’s coz they r not professional photos, more just daily memories…and i’m not paying anyone to do it!)
prob good to research online and see pricing structures of others…
It balances out- kind of like a magazine layout, some spreads are more detailed some less, so that some pages you “earn more” and some pages they “pay less” but its an easier calculation. ie. $20 per page at 30 pages you come out with $600 which is the price of the job for some more detailed, and some less detailed pages. etc
I usuelly allow to choose an amount of pictures.
If they they choose more pic then they need to add pages to the album.
@adinacahn thats right!
the pages with the portrait pictures are less work then for example dancing page where you need to crowd in lots of pictures!
yes but like @hadassyf wrote, best is if you give them a picture number limit so they’re not sending you just one more… just one more…etc once you already started the layout
Ah ha.
Actually, I am doing a different kind of job, but was using an album as a reference and got stuck on this point.
The client is a photographer, and she wants a portfolio pdf of some of her work so that when a client asks for samples, she can just attach it to the email.
So I told her 60 nis/ page. (ya. I already told her…) But then I realized that she would probably want just one or two pictures per page because the point is to highlight the photographs, unlike a wedding where you want to capture the memory. So then I was thinking that 60 nis / page is really a lot!
Unless it isnt
If she didn’t complain about the price then why doubt yourself?
I could tell from her email that she was surprised and unhappy.
I know that she helps spread my name and want to stay on good terms with her!
And she’s my neighbor…
At first it sounded like a fair price, but now I’m all confused.
In that case, think what price would make sense for you to do all the work for and give one flat single rate
